SALARY: $214,805 – $259,532* DOE/DOQ

 

The County of Sonoma seeks an inclusive, engaged, and communicative Director of Health Services to lead our Behavioral and Public Health programs which promote, protect, and ensure access to services to support the health, recovery, and well-being of all in Sonoma County. Our ideal candidate will bring expertise overseeing health services and multi-million-dollar complex-blended funding streams and have a strong background and knowledge of public health and related programs. They will be strategic, a relationship builder, politically savvy, and an exceptional advocate for those we represent. The Director of Health Services has an important role in our organization and the community at large and will use exceptional leadership skills and leverage our community-based partners’ resources to affect health outcomes for everyone in Sonoma County.

 

THE JOB

The Health Services Director will lead the Department of Health Services, with eleven direct, and approximately 580 staff, and a recommended budget of $280 million (https://wbcpinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/FY-21-22-Recc-Budget-Health-Services-Narrative-V1.pdf), in achieving its goal of promoting and protecting the health and well-being of every member of the community, and ensuring the continuum of care. Reporting to the Board of Supervisors, with day-to-day reporting responsibility to the County Administrative Officer, the Director collaborates with other County departments and an amazing group of community partners. This position is responsible for the overall policy, programs, goals, and success of the department and has an in-depth understanding of the social and economic challenges that impact social determinants of public, mental, and environmental health. This position has a strategic and critical role in collaborating with emergency management departments and professionals, cities, foundations, committees, community-based organizations, businesses, educational institutions, and the community-at-large to set local priorities.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in overseeing health services (preferably in California) and will be responsive, politically savvy, communicative, consistent, and collaborative. We are looking for an excellent leader and communicator who removes barriers, and supports and empowers staff. The ideal candidate will have a high level of emotional intelligence, demonstrate diplomacy, and work with all groups within a community. This candidate will be a strong administrator who questions the status quo to find better ways of getting things done, and advocates for programs and services that will serve the underserved in our community. The Health Services Director will effectively build relationships and leverage the strength of our community partners to effect change and improve the health and wellbeing of our community. Through an inclusive, engaging and communicative leadership style, the Director will creative a vision for the Department, effectively communicate that vision, design programs and measure success. The ideal candidate is a trust builder and works toward building a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, and looks for ways to connect with marginalized communities and remove barriers to healthcare access.

 

Employment Standards

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience that would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities of the position, particularly the principles of public and behavioral health programs.
  • A Degree in health care administration, public administration, hospital administration, business administration or a closely related field; a related Master’s Degree is desirable.
  • At least five years of increasingly responsible experience managing a health, behavioral health, or social services organization or large division of such organization.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The annual base salary range for the position is $207,605-$252,332. In addition to the base salary, the position receives a cash allowance of approximately $600 per month. Combined, the annual salary is $214,805-$259,532. Salary is negotiable within the established base salary range DOE/DOQ.

For out of area candidates, the expectation of the Board of Supervisors is for the Director to relocate to Sonoma County within a reasonable amount of time if selected for the position. Relocation reimbursement may be authorized for the successful candidate.
