Scranton Counseling Center (SCC) is a community based, private nonprofit behavioral health provider serving children, adolescents, adults and families with mental health and substance use disorder issues in Lackawanna, Susquehanna and surrounding counties. SCC is Northeast Pennsylvania’s largest integrated provider with over seven decades of quality accessible services for those in need.
Through a number of specific liaison programs, SCC staff works in conjunction with human service agencies, the Courts, schools, and other groups with the intention of addressing behavioral health substance use disorder issues and promoting a greater community awareness of available behavioral healthcare programs and related services. Harrison House, a 54-bed licensed Personal Care Home, primarily serves adults who have serious and persistent mental health issues. Owned and operated by SCC, this program was established to provide a safe, homelike environment for individuals with chronic psychiatric issues.
Scranton Counseling Center seeks an inspiring, empowering and proven leader with a passion for the mission and a deep appreciation and respect for the people served. The next President & CEO will bring experience in demonstrating successful leadership qualities and managing a nonprofit organization. She/He will ideally possess knowledge of behavioral health services and funding mechanisms, including Medicaid and other sources of government and private funding.
The next leader will be an advocate for employees and consumers; a strong leader who has good team-building skills and makes staff feel valued; and a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive manager, demonstrating a belief in the value of all SCC employees.
The President & CEO will exemplify executive experience with strong business and financial acumen, along with the ability to manage a large complex organization and effectively delegate responsibility to direct reports. The successful candidate will value relationships and seek to connect, engage, build and nurture relationships with key organizations and stakeholders through promotion and awareness of SCC’s mission, goals and objectives.
The next President & CEO will be innovative and forward thinking and will be aware of upcoming trends and funding opportunities for new programs allowing the Center to successfully grow and compete. She/He will inspire the entire SCC Board, management and staff with a renewed and/or revised attention to SCC’s mission, core values, programs and services, while establishing employee work plans, goals, and new systems of metrics and accountability.
The ideal candidate's background includes nonprofit experience and is highlighted by a track record of high-level program administration, business acumen, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, aptitude for public speaking, and demonstrated experience in the behavioral health and/or human services related field. An advanced degree in Health or Business Administration or related field, along with a minimum of five-ten years of progressive managerial experience in behavioral health, healthcare or social services programs is required.
This position requires a track record of successfully working with a Board of Directors, community leaders, and government agencies and legislators. Excellent critical thinking, leadership, and communication skills are essential. While not required, a clinical background, and experience working with a unionized staff is preferred.
