Senior Behavioral Health Advisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. The Senior Behavioral Health Advisor is a subject matter expert in mental health for all ages. This role emphasizes the importance of 988, Crisis Services and CCBHCs. Additionally, the advisor supports projects and offers expert guidance on technical assistance initiatives and state commissioner activities.

QUALIFICATIONS. Former state behavioral health commissioner or equivalent higher level, with at  least five years of senior-level leadership experience in a State, local, or Federal Behavioral Health or related agency with a focus on disabilities and vulnerable populations. Preference given to individuals  that have specific experience in all ages of services, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), Faith based programs and artificial intelligence projects. Current knowledge and experiencewith the public behavioral health system and the operations and key policy issues, especially recovery services and supports, service delivery, supported employment, supported housing, Medicaid, Co-Occurring Mental Health and I/DD Practices, and recovery-oriented care; and knowledge of practices that support the prevention of behavioral health problems and the fostering of resilience. Familiarity with Federal programs such as the Community Mental Health Services Block Grant and Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant. Master’s degree preferred. Personal philosophy that is person-centered, recovery oriented, trauma informed focused including using person-first language. Values the involvement of people with lived experience across all service systems. Outstanding communication skills and ability to work independently and manage multiple projects crucial. Knowledge and understanding regarding evaluation studies, use of data, and assessment tools preferred. Knowledge of role of federal government and state public offices in public mental health policy development.

SALARY RANGE. $100,000 – $125,000 a year (based on a 30-hour work week). Eligible for comprehensive benefits including health insurance.
